ImageTattnall Square Academy is proud to welcome Jarvis Smith as the new head boys’ basketball coach. Coach Smith has previously served as the men’s head basketball coach at his alma mater, Brewton-Parker College. Prior to his tenure with Brewton-Parker, Smith served as head coach at Robert Toombs Academy where he led his team to two state championships.

“Coach Smith brings a wealth of experience and expertise to TSA,” stated Head of School, Brenda Shuman-Riley. “ As a member of the PE staff he will contribute to the mental and physical growth of our students. As a coach he will develop not only athletic skills, but also encourage success both on and off the court. As a faculty member, he will be a valued professional. I am thrilled that Coach Smith and his family chose our school as their new home, and we welcome them as our newest Trojans.”

In addition to serving as head boys’ basketball coach, Coach Smith will serve as assistant football coach and will teach PE skills to students in the Lower School.  He has extensive experience in the GISA and GHSA and holds three Coach of the Year titles, along with an All Star Coach honor by the State of Georgia.

In previous years, Coach Smith has led a WBA team, The Gwinnett Majic, to two consecutive WBA championships. Throughout the majority of his career, Coach Smith volunteered with the Boys and Girls club of America coaching two basketball teams and acting as a mentor and mediator for students.

“I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Riley and her administration for this extraordinary opportunity,” stated Smith. “My family and I are thrilled to be a part of the Tattnall family, and I’m looking forward to leading the boys’ basketball team during this transition into the GHSA.”

We are excited to welcome Coach Smith, his wife, and children to the Tattnall family.
