Tattnall Square Academy is proud to announce that Mr. John Garrett Abernathy has accepted the position of head football coach.

A graduate of Mount de Sales Academy and Mercer University with a B.A. in Political Science and a Master of Arts in Teaching, Coach Abernathy brings to Tattnall a strong knowledge of football and the Middle Georgia area. Coach Abernathy played four years of football at Mercer University where he earned accolades every year of his playing career.

Abernathy is no stranger to the Tattnall football program, having been a part of the 2016 season in which the Trojans posted a 12-1 record and having played against Tattnall during his time at Mount de Sales.

Additionally, he is currently working on his Specialist degree in Instructional Technology from The University of West Georgia.

When asked about Coach Abernathy, Athletic Director Joey Hiller said, “We are absolutely blown away by his vision, passion, and enthusiasm for the Tattnall football program. We are excited for everyone to meet him, and we are thrilled about what the future holds, not only for football but also for our school.”

On being named to the new position, Abernathy said, “I’m so honored to be chosen as the head football coach of the Tattnall Trojans. I love that the mission of Tattnall coincides with my goals as a coach: God first, family focused, all the while playing the best football in Middle Georgia. I am going to demand a relentless commitment from myself, the players, and the Tattnall community. I feel blessed and humbled to have this opportunity. God bless, and as always, Go Trojans.”
