MACON, Ga. – Jessica Norwood was named Tattnall Square Academy’s STAR Student for the 2019-2020 school year. The student who earns the highest SAT score, in one sitting, is honored with the STAR Student title. This student must also be in the top 10 or top 10% of his or her class.

Norwood, a student at Tattnall since seventh grade, selected Mrs. Carolyn Smothers as her STAR Teacher. This is Mrs. Smother’s eleventh STAR Teacher award since she joined the Tattnall family in 1982.

“We’re all going to go off to college and do amazing things because of what [Mrs. Smothers] has taught us here,” commented Norwood.

Mrs. Smothers was overjoyed Norwood chose to honor her with her tenth STAR Teacher award. “I appreciate Jessica because she’s got heart in addition to ability. She’s the first one to help someone who doesn’t understand.” expressed Mrs. Smothers.

In addition to her selection as STAR Student, Norwood is the Math Team co-captain and is involved in Beta Club, and Key Club. She has won numerous highest average awards, is a UGA Certificate of Merit recipient, and is an AP Scholar with Honors. Norwood also attended Governor’s Honors Program for Mathematics last year.
