MACON, Ga. – Colleen Molton was named Tattnall Square Academy’s STAR Student for the 2018-2019 school year. The student who earns the highest SAT score, in one sitting, is honored with the STAR Student title. This student must also be in the top 10 or top 10% of his or her class.

Molton, a student at Tattnall since sixth grade, selected Mrs. Carolyn Smothers as her STAR Teacher. This is Mrs. Smother’s tenth STAR Teacher award since she joined the Tattnall family in 1982. She taught Molton Algebra I Honors, Algebra II Honors and Problem Solving in grades 7-12. Molton credits Mrs. Smothers for teaching her to love mathematics.

“I have been in Mrs. Smother’s class since I was in seventh grade. I could not be more grateful to her for the opportunities she has given me!” commented Molton.

Mrs. Smothers was overjoyed Molton chose to honor her with her tenth STAR Teacher award. “She is certainly my star student in that she gets the number one award in math competitions. She makes me look good!” expressed Mrs. Smothers.

In addition to her selection as STAR Student, Molton is involved in Beta Club, Honor Council, Math Team, Student Council, Y-Club, Ecology Action Club, Reading Bowl, and One-Act Play. She also serves as captain of the cheerleading squad. Molton has won numerous highest average awards and was awarded 2nd in her class for two years. Molton plans to attend Georgia Institute of Technology in the fall.
