Macon, GA. – Emily Mixon was named Tattnall Square Academy’s STAR Student for the 2015-2016 school year. The student who earns the highest SAT score, in one sitting, is honored with the STAR Student title. This student must also be in the top 10% of her class.

Emily selected Mrs. Carolyn Smothers, renowned math instructor and TSA Math Team coach, as her STAR Teacher. This is the 8th time Mrs. Smothers has been selected as STAR Teacher during her 34 year tenure. Jack Haughawout, 2014-2015 Star Student, also selected Mrs. Smothers as his STAR Teacher.

Emily, who earned her highest score in the mathematics section, spoke of Mrs. Smothers’ unwavering dedication to her students over the years.   “Mrs. Smothers has made a huge impact on my life throughout my high school years, and I am incredibly thankful to her for providing me with the experience of competing with the math team for the last five years,” stated Mixon. Mrs. Smothers was surprised and humbled by the announcement this afternoon.

In addition to her selection as STAR Student, Emily is a Mercer University Presidential Scholarship Honoree.  Additionally, she was one of four Tattnall students accepted into Georgia Tech this year.
