Constitution
Article I. Name
The name of this organization shall be the Tattnall Square Academy Student Council.
Article II. Purpose
The purpose of the Tattnall Square Academy Student Council shall be
A. To present a positive image of the school to fellow students and to the community at large
B. To work as a liaison to encourage good communication between the administration and the student body
C. To work toward the improvement of student-teacher relations
D. To encourage the Christian emphasis at Tattnall Square Academy
E. To promote scholarship, honesty, leadership, and good citizenship at Tattnall Square Academy
F. To encourage school and community service
Article III. Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Student Council include:
A. Presiding over weekly chapel programs
B. Overseeing the election and presentation of the Homecoming Queen and Homecoming Court
C. Working with the Key Club on the Kids Yule Love Toy Drive and Christmas Program
D. Overseeing the election of the Valentine Sweethearts
E. Running the elections of the Student Council Officers and the Class Officers
F. Conducting the Moving up Ceremony
Article IV. Advisor
A member of the faculty shall be advisor for the Tattnall Square Academy Student Council. He/she shall be appointed by the Headmaster of Tattnall Square Academy and shall serve as long as he/she is a member of the faculty or until he/she resigns as advisor.
Article V. Membership
The membership of this organization shall be made up of
A. Four officers elected by the student body
1. President
2. Vice-President
3. Treasurer
4. Secretary
B. Presidents of all classes
C. Presidents of all clubs / organizations
D. Editors of the annual, newspaper, and literary magazine
E. Captains of the Varsity Cheerleaders (Football, Basketball, and Soccer) the B Team Cheerleaders, the Band, and the Drill Team
Any other Tattnall Square Academy students who are leaders in a school or community organization that the Student Council members deem appropriate
Article VI. Student Council and Class Officers
The officers of the Tattnall Square Academy Student Council shall be
A. President -a senior
B. Vice-President -a junior
C. Treasurer -a sophomore
D. Secretary -a freshman
The officers for each class at Tattnall Square Academy shall include
A. President
B. Vice-President
C. Treasurer
D. Secretary
Article VII. Qualifications for Student Council and Class Officers
Qualifications for Tattnall Square Academy Student Council officers shall include the following:
Candidates must have a B average at the end of the third grading period.
Candidates must be approved by the teachers. If four teachers veto a student then he/she will be disqualified from running for an office.
C. Candidates must have no proven record of cheating.
D. Candidates must have no record of suspension in the last year.
Anyone running for Student Council President may not be President of a class or another club, be the captain of a cheerleading squad, or editor of the newspaper or the annual.
Exceptions:
1. Presidents of language clubs, etc. which meet during a class and are not considered extracurricular activities
2. Captains of school teams (Ex. Captain of the football team or captain of the Academic Bowl Team)
Qualifications for Tattnall Square Academy Class Officers shall include the following:
A. Candidates must have a passing average in all subjects at the end of the third grading period.
Candidates must be approved by the teachers. If four teachers veto a student, then he/she will be disqualified from running for an office.
C. Candidates must have no proven record of cheating.

Article VIII. Duties of Student Council Officers
The duties of the President shall be
To preside at Student Council meetings, chapel programs, and school assemblies
B. To appoint any committees
To represent this organization when necessary or to see that the organization is properly represented
D. To supervise the organization and execution of all policies and general activities of the club in cooperation with the Headmaster and the Student Council Advisor
E. To greet any assembly or chapel speakers upon their arrival
The duties of the Vice-President shall be
To preside at any meetings in the absence of the Student Council President
B. To assist in administering the affairs of the Student Council
The duties of the Treasurer shall be
A. To keep a record of all financial matters pertaining to the Student Council
B. To collect and preserve the club's funds
To pay out of the club's funds the necessary and designated moneys to meet the financial obligations of the club
To pass on to the treasurer succeeding him/her all records and funds remaining in the treasury
The duties of the Secretary shall be
A. To keep records of membership and attendance
B. To record the minutes of the meetings
C. To carry on the necessary correspondence, which includes thank you notes to guest speakers and singers, etc.
Article IX. Procedure for Electing Student Council and Class Officers
The election of the Student Council Officers shall proceed as follows:
Elections will be held in April or May of the year preceding the term of office.
A student desiring to be a candidate must fill out a nomination form, which includes the office for which he/she would like to run.
A student may nominate a member of his/her class be filling out a nomination form.
All nomination forms will be validated by the Student Council Advisor.
Each nominee must give his/her approval before his/her name is put on the ballot.
All nominees must be approved by the teachers. If four teachers veto a student, he/she will be disqualified from running for an office, and his/her name will not be put on the ballot.
An assembly for grades 7-12 will be held on the day of elections. All candidates will be introduced by the outgoing President, and candidates for the new Student Council President will make a speech.
Following the assembly, students in grades 8-11 will return to their homerooms to vote for the candidates of their choice.
The candidates receiving the most votes in each category will be declared the winners.
In the event of a tie, ballots will be distributed during supervision the next day for a vote to break the tie.
K. Campaigning will be limited to:
1. 1 banner for lunchroom- paper distributed by advisor
2. 2 poster size signs- 1 for each hall
3. Campaign tags for students to wear (No candy; they can be paper made)
The elections of Class Officers shall proceed as follows:
Elections will be held in May of the year preceding the term of office and after the election of Student Council officers.

Article X. Induction
The induction of the new officers will take place as a part of Moving Up Ceremony held on the last day for seniors.
Article XI. Meetings

Article XII. Amending the Constitution
This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the membership at any meeting where a quorum is present, provided that notice of the amendment has been given at a previous meeting.This constitution shall be reviewed by a committee consisting of the officers and the advisor at least once every two years to be sure that everything stated herein is relevant to the present membership.Amendments shall be abided by as part of the constitution.
BY-LAWS OF STUDENT COUNCIL
Article I. Time and place of meetings
Regular meetings shall be held at least once a month and at such other times that the President, the Advisor, or the Headmaster deems necessary. The place of the meeting will be announced.
Article II. Quorum
A quorum of the Tattnall Square Academy Student Council shall be constituted by a majority of the membership. No action that is binding upon the membership or student body may be taken unless a quorum is present; however, certain matters such as a discussion of a program, project, policy, etc. may be carried on at a regular or special meeting without a quorum being present.
Article III. Standards of Membership
Standards of membership in the Tattnall Square Academy Student Council must conform to those laid down by the Headmaster and Board of Directors of Tattnall Square Academy and put forth in the Student Handbook.
Members, consisting of the leaders at Tattnall Square Academy, represent the student body and school; therefore, they are expected to uphold the school's Christian values, to maintain high standards of moral and academic excellence, and to willingly serve both their school and community.
Article IV. Induction of Officers
The induction of the new officers will follow the procedure set forth in the Moving Up Ceremony, which is held on the last day for seniors.
Article V. Loss of Membership
A Student Council Member will be dropped from membership in Student Council if:
A. He/she is absent without justifiable reason from three meetings
B. He/she is suspended from school for any reason
C. He/she is caught cheating
Article VI. Replacing Student Council Officers
If for any reason the elected President becomes unable to complete his or her term of office, the Vice-President shall become President. If there is a vacancy in any other Student Council office, the President and Student Council advisor shall nominate an officer who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of the Student Council.
Article VII. Service Project
The Student Council shall undertake at least one service project during the school year.
Article VIII. Amending the By-Laws
The By-Laws of the Tattnall Square Academy Student Council may be amended by a majority of the membership, provided such amendment is placed before the club at a previous meeting.
