Summer Reading 2010 for grades 7 - 12.

Faculty Selection Groups

1. All students in grades 7 –12 must read the following:
  • 1 required book for English that will be studied in class first quarter
  • 1 book from the Faculty Selections list that will be read and discussed with a faculty member and a small group of fellow students

2. All Honors English and AP English students, grades 8-12, must read one additional book. (Those who signed up for Honors and AP will be notified by letter whether or not they are accepted for the class.)

3. English Department Summer Reading Tests

  • The test over the required books for all students in grades 7-12 will be given during English class on Friday, August 13.
  • Assessments will consist of written responses to the required book.  Attendance is mandatory. Students will be instructed by the respective teacher concerning the test over the additional book for Honors or AP English.

4. Faculty Selection Groups and Assessment

  • In May, all students presently enrolled at Tattnall sign up for choices 1, 2, and 3 on the Faculty Selection List.   Faculty selection books / teachers / groups are then posted outside the English classrooms before school ends.
  • No excuses will be accepted for not knowing what Faculty Choice Selection to read.  It is the student's responsibility to check the posted lists to see what book to read and / or  contact the school for clarification if there is a question.
  • Assessment over the Faculty Selections will be based on evidence of careful reading of the text exhibited in small group discussion to be held on Thursday, August 12.   Attendance is mandatory.

5. Any new student accepted prior to July 19 is responsible for signing up for a Faculty Selection.

6. Any new student accepted after August 1 is encouraged but not required to take the English book test(s) on August 13.  If a new student elects not to take the English Department Summer Reading Test on August 13,  the student must make arrangements with his or her English teacher to take the test(s) on or before August 31.
