MACON, GA – Senior standout Destin Mack signed a letter of intent to play football with The Citadel today. While the 6’1″, 195 lb star athlete had several schools show interest during the recruiting process, Mack eventually chose Division I school The Citadel, where he received a full scholarship.

Destin has been a part of the Tattnall family since fifth grade and has always been involved in Tattnall athletics. After years of extraordinary success on the varsity football, basketball, and baseball teams at Tattnall, Mack proved to be an invaluable player.

“The stats alone speak for Destin’s importance to the football program,” Coach Jones said.

This season, Mack broke Josh Loosier’s (’01) 5 touchdown record by making 6 touchdowns in the game against Wilcox County. He had 145 carries, 1,385 yards, 9.55 yards per carry on average and 28 rushing touchdowns for the year. Playing both offense and defense, Mack played around 100 plays per game, and he was also the Trojans second leading tackler with 69 total tackles, 2 interceptions and 1 TFL.

Mack was named Macon Touchdown Club’s Running Back of the Week and Georgia Farm Bureau’s Player of the Game for his performance against Stratford Academy. He rushed 22 times for 192 yards and a touchdown as well as recording 6 tackles from his defensive back position.

As he spoke at the signing, Head Coach Chance Jones told the crowd how much he will miss having Destin on his team. He also let the crowd in on a secret – It is Destin’s 18th birthday today! Coach Jones led Destin’s friends and family in song as they sang “Happy Birthday” to him.

After signing, Mack thanked his family, his teachers, and his coaches who played critical roles throughout his athletic career. “I want to thank God for giving me the ability and opportunity to play this sport and for giving me two wonderful families, my family at home and my Tattnall family,” smiled Mack.
